I was recently one of 100 photographers asked to be a part of a very exciting worldwide project, “Mirrors – A book of Self-Portrait Photography”.  Of course I jumped at the chance to do something different, creative, to think out of the box, to look at the woman in the mirror…so to speak

Self portraits allow artists to define themselves in their own terms.  You choose what goes into the photograph, and in doing so, you choose who you are and how others percieve you.  Mirrors is a book of self-portrait photographs from a worldwide art project, “100 Self-Portraits: Defining Ourselves Through Photography”.

The project asked each of the participants to question his or her identity and convey their personality through a single image.   It was harder than you might think, but the image I came up with was taken with my Blackberry Pearl cell phone on the Golden Gate Bridge.  I had dropped off my daughter in Pacifica with friends and was heading home to Sacramento when I struck by the dramatic fog going across the bridge, literally cutting it in half.  On the San Francisco side, it was dark, gloomy and foggy.  On the Marin County side, it was bright and sunny.  I parked my car on the Marin side and started walking back across the bridge, towards the fog, and snapping pics with my trusty blackberry.

I liked the image because it conveyed a sense of travel, a little mystery, a different perspective (and because the high angle of the camera made my face and neck slimmer…hehe.)

Lindsey is a senior at El Camino High School and I have had such fun getting to know her and her mom, Monya.  We did two location shoots for her senior session, one in Old town Roseville and the second one in Old Sac.  Here are a few favorites from her latest session.  Enjoy!

That’s the kind of thinking I like!   So after searching online for the perfect boudoir photographer to work with,  Casey emailed me to set up a consult so we could meet. ( I always recommend this for boudoir clients!)   After chatting a bit and bouncing some ideas around, we set a date for their shoot.  Brandon shared that he teaches MMA and has a blue belt in jujitsu, so he wanted to incorporate that into the session.  Casey had some sexy lingerie items she wanted to use as well, but it mostly was kept very simple and focused on the love they had for each other in their relationship.  You could just feel the passion during the session.  The resulting portraits were very sexy and sensual. We used two different backgrounds, one I call my “fire and ice” background, and the other one a simple black backdrop.  I used a 3 light setup plus a large reflector in the studio.  For the soft light, I used a reverse-halo softbox, and for the harder light I used a strip light with a grid.  At they end of the session, Casey and Brandon played out a vampire fantasy session, with Brandon innocently sleeping as Casey comes in for a quick bite…hehehe.
