Full Moon June 4th, 2012

I have always been fascinated by the moon and have tried numerous times to get a decent photo of it, but with my portrait camera gear I usually get just so-so stuff.  This time I had a little better luck, and thought I would share three of my favorites, taken in Citrus Heights, right outside of Sacramento, right about the peak time, which was between 10-10:30 pm.  I used my tripod, a high ISO of 6400, and a variety of exposures.

I had fun playing with my fisheye lens and got this fun shot from my driveway.  The moon is in the middle with the swirls around it. Such a different perspective vs the telephoto lens!

Btw I found out from the Farmer’s Almanac that June’s full Moon’s name is the Full Strawberry Moon. June’s Full Strawberry Moon got its name because the Algonquin tribes knew it as a signal to gather ripening fruit. It was often known as the Full Rose Moon in Europe (where strawberries aren’t native).

I also found out that the Full Moon was in the zodiac sign of Sagittarius on June 4, 2012 at 3:11 AM PDT.  Sagittarius “The Archer,” is the mutable fire sign ruled by the expansive and jovial planet of Jupiter. Sagittarius is considered to be the oldest and wisest of the fire signs and is known to give “sage” advice.

Enjoy!
