The 2nd Annual PREMIERE EVENT at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts was a fabulous close to our theater performances for the 2009/2010 Season. An incredible variety of repertoire, highlighted by a World Premiere by choreographer Brian Reeder, followed by a beautiful reception – all contributed to a memorable season finale.
With featured works by George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Trey McIntyre, Amy Seiwert and Yuri Zhukov – all in addition to Brian’s premiere – everyone in the audience had to agree that the range of dance was spectacular. Sacramento Bee reviewer Jim Carnes had to say of Reeder’s premiere: “Reeder’s dance – “Market Crash,” set to composer Eric Moe’s “Market Forces” – is a near-perfect realization of Moe’s chaotic, 15-minute work for saxophone quartet.
In describing the choice by the Jerome Robbins Foundation to pair Brian Reeder and the Sacramento Ballet and fund the world premiere, he said: “The foundation – and the audience – got its money’s worth.”
But there was more! Following the program, the audience and the dancers were treated to a beautiful reception planned and executed by long-time ballet volunteer Natalee Pecorelli. With help from a long list of donors, she created an event that will be talked about for many months to come. From the delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts, to the never-ending flow of champagne, to the gorgeously decorated tent set off by extraordinary floral arrangements, it was truly an event to remember.
The entire event would not have been possible without the support of a group of special supporters who stepped forward to make it all happen – a group we have dubbed the “Davis and Woodland Friends of the Sacramento Ballet.” Our deep thanks to: Martha Dickman, Lisle and Jeanne George, Jim Hargrove, Barbara Katz, Grant and Grace Noda, Kathy and Ashley Payne, and Richard and Judy Wydick. With such committed supporters in communities throughout our region, the Sacramento Ballet will have an even greater future.
